McKenzie Method

The McKenzie Method of Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy (MDT) is a Method of assessment and treatment for spinal and limb pain developed by New Zealand Physiotherapist Robin McKenzie. It has been a core component of physiotherapy treatment for over 30 years and is practiced extensively throughout the world. It is a movement orientated approach that aims to provide the patient with the tools to help themselves both in the short and long term.

The chiropractor finds the McKenzie method is most effective for back pain that is aggravated by sitting or bending. It is can also be very effective for pain radiating down the leg coming from the back- very often referred to as sciatica. Sciatica can have a variety of causes and depending on what the cause is the McKenzie method may be the best approach. Some causes of neck pain that radiate into the arm are very responsive to this approach as are some types of very severe neck pain.
