Acupuncture/ Dry Needling

This involves the insertion of fine needles into the skin. Although they are the same needles as used in traditional acupuncture it is not the same. It works on a western understanding of the physiology of the human body and is used mainly for pain relief and to relax tight muscles. This will be generally be used in conjunction with the manual therapy treatment you are receiving. Acupuncture is in the recent NICE guidelines for the treatment of chronic low back pain along with exercise and manipulation. The chiropractor will use a combination of all of these if appropriate for your condition. Acupuncture is also in the NICE guidelines for the treatment of migraine and cervicogenic headaches.

If the chiropractor feels you may benefit from traditional acupuncture he will refer you to Grantham Acupuncture for a proper assessment from a TCM trained acupuncturist.
